Hubstaff Review: An Innovative Time Tracking Software and Freelancing Website

Last Updated on June 9, 2017 By Walter Akolo 61 Comments

Hubstaff talent

This image shows my Hubstaff Talent profile

I first came across Hubstaff when I was doing some work for Skyrocket. They were using Hubstaff to track my time since the work was paid hourly. I found it kind of a big deal.

Recently, the brilliant guys at Hubstaff also came up with the first free online work platform – Hubstaff Talent. This service is free for both online workers and clients.

I believe Hubstaff is a stroke of genius. So, as usual, when I get something worth sharing, I write a review about it. Here, we’ll look at these:

  • A review of Hubstaff Time Tracker
  • What Hubstaff Talent is and how you can take advantage of it as a freelancer or a business person looking to hire freelancers

What is Hubstaff?

Hubstaff is a time tracking software that employers, clients and companies can use to track their remote teams. It is similar to the Upwork Team App.

Perhaps the video below will best explain to you how it works.

In short, if you want to hire someone to write some articles for you and you pay them per hour, you can use this software to track their progress.

It takes random screenshots that can be used as proof of work. You can also set your budget and time limits on someone’s working hours.

For example, if you hire John and you want him to be working for a maximum of 5 hours a day at $50 per hour, you can set up the software to reflect that. Therefore, at the end of the day you can log in and check if John worked for the 5 hours.

It captures screenshots and mouse/keyboard activity. You’ll check these to see if he was really working, then if all is well you pay him the $250 for the day.

You can use it as an all in one toolbox to manage multiple projects and teams.

Hubstaff features

  • Employee time tracking
  • Screen capture
  • Automatic creation of timesheets
  • Mouse and keystroke monitoring
  • Advanced reporting

Who is Hubstaff made for?

Hubstaff is primarily made for businesses and entrepreneurs who manage remote teams. It ensures that remote employees or freelancers get accurate payments for the actual time they used working.

It can be used as a standalone application but is also compatible with a wide variety of project management solutions. The video below walks you through

Hubstaff pricing

Hubstaff has different pricing options as seen below:

– The Solo Lite plan is free. It allows one user and has limited screenshot storage.

– The Basic plan starts at $5 per user per month.

– The Premium plan starts at $9 per user per month. It includes extra features that are not present in the other plans. These include idle time control, integrations, app and url tracking, weekly limits and attendance scheduling.

All the paid plans come with a 14 day free trial.

What is Hubstaff Talent?

I’m sure freelancers have really been waiting for this part.

Hubstaff Talent is an absolutely free online work portal. Entrepreneurs and businesses can get freelancers here with no fees or commissions.

Did you know that most freelancing websites charge up to 20% in fees? For example, Upwork charges exactly 20%. In Fiverr, when you’re paid $5, and you withdraw, you get $3.92. The list goes on, but the average is 20%.

Hubstaff is free. If you’re paid $100, you get $100.

You can join it whether you’re looking for work or looking to hire.

Hubstaff Talent works differently for freelancers.

Here you don’t keep bidding for work, neither do you select work from a queue.

Once you set up your profile, you wait for companies to find your profile. They’ll then contact you directly, you work with them and get paid directly via whichever platform you both agree on. You can either create an account as an individual freelancer or as an agency.Hubstaff talent profile

Here you work directly with your clients. No fees, no middleman!

If you’re a business owner looking for freelancers, then all you need to do is sign up, browse the different agencies or freelancers, contact your preferred candidate, agree on work terms and start working together.

As simple as that.

Bottom line

Many solutions are coming up nowadays and changing how business is done. It’s great to see that the geniuses at Hubstaff are pioneering a great way to hire freelancers or get online work. Their time tracking software is also excellent for those who want to monitor their remote teams.

What do you think of Hubstaff? What other innovative ideas do you have that new freelancing websites can implement? Let’s continue this conversation on the comments.

    That is wonderful stuff!
But I am curious; if Hubstaff Talent if free for both freelancers and clients, how does the owner of the site make money out of it?
And perhaps lastly, it is my observation that if Hubstaff does not manager payment between freelancers and clients some clients may escape without paying freelancers. But otherwise this is wonderful site, and I am signing up on it today.

Have you tried ‘Opportunity’ yet? In this you get to decide what you are looking for, be it a job, to grow your LinkedIn network, to get sales etc. Then you fill out your profile accordingly and you will be notified once an opportunity comes up. I think it`s helpful too as you get notified of a job that totally fit your profile and you will be among the first to apply increasing your chances of being hired.
