27th February 2013 – I have realized that I have not been posting enough news articles while there is a lot happening on the ground. My inbox has been flooded the last couple of days with news of different things. I take this opportunity to thank all those who keep sending me information on what’s happening.
Below are the news items of the week:
1. FreelancerKenya Introduces a Services and Advertising Page
In my research before my training, I realized that I had set up a hire me page that was targeting the wrong audience.
As always, you guys have been my heroes and I’d love to help you out in the best ways possible. Kindly check out the new services and advertisements page and tell me when you want us to do some business.
2. I Need Writers
Here is the good news for writers.
I am looking for writers who I can work with in some upcoming projects.
All work will be paid for upfront via milestones/escrow to protect both of us. For starters, writers will only be paid $1.5 per 500 words which may increase in future when I land better paying projects. All who are interested should email me at walter@freelancerkenya.com together with a writing sample.
New and experienced writers are welcome though if you are not comfortable with the above amount, kindly ignore this since the price is not negotiable for now.
3. MediaPiston Closes Down
I must admit that I didn’t know much about MediaPiston apart from the fact that it was mentioned in one of my comments when iWriter suspended Kenya.
MediaPiston was a content mill owned by oDesk which worked in a ways similar to iWriter. There, writers would just log in and get writing projects.
They recently shut down, stating that there will be no more work after 28th Feb. Click here to read more about this shut down.
4. Changes in KenyaPesa and PesaGram
There have been a couple of changes in KenyaPesa and PesaGram.
KenyaPesa briefly suspended their services but came back on 25th Feb. They replaced their services site with www.tuwaze.com where they offer the same services they used to.
PesaGram suspended their services sometime back till further notice.
Note that I am providing small-time PayPal withdrawal services. For more details, check out my services page.
5. No Signs of Bullish Trade Coming Back
There are still people who are hopeful that Bullish Trade will come back.
Unfortunately, there are no signs of it coming back any time soon. In fact, according to a Standard article, there is a new HYIP scam called Profit 100 that is once again targeting Kenyans. As stated many times, be careful with your hard earned cash.
6. ePAY-KENYA Closes over the Voting Period
Just like many other institutions, ePAY-KENYA will also close to allow their staff to go and exercise their voting rights.
They will break from 28th February to 6th March and will be back to office on the 7th.
Let me know if you hear anything
I have my ears to the ground and will definitely keep you posted on how things are going. Feel free to help other Kenyan freelancers know what’s happening by sending me an email at walter@freelancerkenya.com whenever something relevant happens in the freelancing scene.
See you at the comments section.
how does tuwaze work?
They say it works just like KenyaPesa. You can confirm with their support team.
